Alan’s New Forest paintings often hark back to a bygone era.
Alan Langford is a freelance artist and illustrator living in the New Forest and is a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists.
As a child he had close contact with the local Romani community. This lasting influence led Alan to often feature their horse fairs and temporary camps in his paintings. Indeed, his love of horses and riding has kept him focused on equestrian art and he says his foremost objective is to depict action in a convincing, predominantly aesthetic way.
After a early footloose career, he studied at Southampton College of Art and this led him to work as an illustrator for etchmasters before going freelance. He has illustrated comics, encyclopedias, history books etc, but his real passion is to paint horses in their New Forest surroundings.
