Janet Treby

The three new mixed media watercolours have just been joined by another two from Janet. These pictures explore the female form with a lightness of touch and ethereal quality.

Artist Details: Born in London in 1955, Janet grew up the youngest of four children in a small country village in Bedfordshire. She attended the West Surrey College of Art & Design and went onto the Slade School of Fine Art where she studied printmaking. During the 80s she lectured in printmaking to support her art and won various awards for her work including the Lloyds Young Printmaker of the Year and the Elizabeth Greenshield award, which allowed her to paint for a year. Her aim was always to paint full-time and this she has now achieved with the autonomy to explore her ideas.

"My work has always been about transformation on different levels. Known widely for my images of ethereal figures some of the new work I am producing is around my love for the natural world. My work is forever changing - how can anything stay the same as you evolve as an individual your work evolves with you, sometimes taking a step back to move forward. There is always a strong spiritual element in my work whatever the subject matter. I am fascinated by the metaphysical and our relationship with the planet and the universe. As I work the image takes on its own energy and reality and one of the things I try to convey through my work is the emotional connection between all things, sometimes sadly forgotten in the times we live in. Through creative expression we can tap into another part of our consciousness which we generall ignore."
