Glass
Svaja Glass is hand made in Lithuania. Glass manufacture
in Lithuania goes back some 1200 years when glass began to be used in
the construction of churches and castles. The first foundry was established
455 years ago. Today there are far fewer glass foundries than ever before. The
remaining ones are very large producers, mainly as a result of mergers.Decorative
glass making is found in a small number of specialised studios, dotted
around the country.Svaja trys to create sculptures from glass, with added
colour that makes it spring to life. In a statement of optimism and vibrancy,
of flair and indulgence. Creations that demand comment and provoke reaction.Made
by the finest craftsmen in their selected studios, led by Remigijus Kriukas.
The collection is created for Svaja by Vygantas Paulauskas, one of the
leading artists in Europe. He graduated from the Lithuanian State Institute
of Fine Arts in Vilnius and then on to the Baltic Sea Glass school on
Bornholm Island. His teachers were the world famous glass artists Peter
Hunner and Charlier Maeker.
