Margaret returns full time to painting with this latest exhibition of her work which follows an inspiring visit to Sicily in the autumn of last year.She is now working on pictures in the Solent Light series with the first one shown below.

"In this group of paintings, I try to capture the wonderful feeling of the streets in Taormina - the meandering tourists, street artists, dancers and musicians, and all the activity and movement that inspired my quick sketches while I was there. I am attracted by the light flitting between tall buildings and streaming round street corners catching people in its glow and the contrasting dusky tones of shadow beneath the Oleander trees against the intensity of sun-bleached walls.

In the other "water" paintings I am concerned with the effects of light dancing on the surface, silhouetting people enjoying the sense of radiant sunlight that water intensifies so much.

In all, I love to paint colour and light and people and how the former delineates the latter, picking out the turn of a cheek here, the tip of the head there or the bright top of a hat, as light and shade sculpt form among reflections and sparkling light...."
