Robert Hurdle

Robert was born in London in 1918. he studied drawing and painting at Richmond School of Art.

After six years of military service during the war, he continued his studies at Camberwell School of Arts and Craft.

In 1949 he moved to Bristol to take up a teaching post at the West of England College of Art. he was a Senior Lecturer of Fine Art until his retirement in 1980.

He is a senior academician of the Royal West of England Academy. He is a member of the Bath Society of Artists. During the 50's and 60's he worked directly from nature. The 70's saw a complete change in working methods and technique, working within the studio enjoying a more reflective approach. His present period is of a formalised subject where elements of space and light are realised through an overlapping of translucent areas of comlementary colours.

He regularly shows his work in group and solo exhibitions.
